During the 75th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1958, prominent bridge designer David Steinman said, “Today there are bigger bridges - but they never could have been built had not Brooklyn Bridge shown the way.  And its story is still the greatest bridge-building story of all.” In May of 2008, Paul Giroux served as the Chairman and keynote speaker for the 125th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.   His speech brought to life the challenges of the bridge’s construction and highlighted the lessons of the master builders John, Washington, and Emily Roebling. To commemorate the 130 year anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge, Paul Giroux of Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. will be sharing his acclaimed lecture at Notre Dame.

Paul Giroux was the recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2013 Civil Engineering History and Heritage Award.   He received his BS in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University in 1979. Since then, Paul has been with Kiewit Corporation for the past 34 years and played a key role in the construction of several heavy civil engineering mega projects throughout the United States including Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore, projects on the Big Dig in Boston including the new Zakim / Bunker Hill Bridge, and most recently, the new San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge East Span. He is member of the Iowa State University Civil Engineering Advisory Board, the Transportation Research Board, and is a Corresponding Member of the American Society of Civil Engineering History and Heritage Committee. In 2010 he presented the closing speech at the Hoover Dam 75th Anniversary Symposium in Las Vegas.  During 2012 Paul served as the ASCE Chairman and featured speaker for the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary.  Currently Paul is participating in the ASCE’s efforts to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Panama Canal in 2014. Paul is the author of several bridge design and civil engineering history papers and has presented lectures and seminars at over 40 engineering schools throughout the United States.
